I can’t find any info to support this, but I don’t think the Cosmos view supports loops. As I think about it how would the software group a loop? probably by genre which isn’t supprted in the gui. So I’m fine with that.
Thoughts?

Hi @wecreateyou,
Welcome to the Waves Forum.
In order for COSMOS to scan a sample, you will need to verify the following :
If some of your samples don’t meet these conditions, it could explain why you they are not scanned by Cosmos.
If you need any assistance or further information please Contact Technical Support directly and they will be happy to help out.
There is a filter at the top that allows you to search for loops.
Cosmos might be able to discern the difference by meta information written into the audio. If that is the case, it is theoretically possible it won’t show you all your available loops.
The “Cosmos” view does not support loops. The program adds lots of tags to loops automatically, so it isn’t too hard to search them, but it’s not as easy as one shots.
The real problem with the program is it corrupts its database too easily. On my system it just asks me to re-scan over and over and samples will disappear and reappear in the library all the time. Support says they’re trying to fix those bugs but as far as the current version goes, it’s hard to use in the real world.
Oh… “Cosmos view”… right… the star chart thing. I didn’t pick up on the whole semantic thing.
In that case, RJ is correct from my understanding.
Although, I will add I don’t think there is so much a corrupt data thing going on, but more likely hidden files or something put in place by the system or other software that maybe throwing off Cosmos’ ability to scan correctly. Or something to that effect.
The information it places in the database isnt affected at all.
Maybe. I’m just going by what Support told me. They said if a scan ever gets interrupted the database will become corrupt and start having problems.
Ah, an interrupted scan. Never thought about that. I can see how that would be an issue. The small amount of problems I experienced were unrelated to that.
If a certain collection doesn’t seem to scan properly you could always try removing and adding it again. Failing that, there are a few files/folders you can try removing to rest the whole database. But then you’ll need to rescan the whole thing and there’s no guarantees you won’t get the problems like you had before.
Did this ever get fixed? I’m having the same issue. What software is a good alternative?
This could be such an amazing app. Unfortunately it’s a bit rubbish. Because the AI engine is far too ambitious for its capabilities and refinement. THIS APP NEES A RADICAL UPGRADE!
I’ve had basically all the problems mentioned above, except the one not showing any samples-it always shows samples: sometimes almost all (about 150k) sometimes half.
I’ve notices it’s much faster if all my samples (150k) are in just one folder, no subfolders. This is a very slow process. Also it has to be a folder that is not really accessed by any other app (especially not ableton), so i made a copy of all my samples (230GB) put them in an extra folder outside of ableton (or any other daw) library (these daws always make annotations to the folders in the library, and copy files from one folder to another- cosmos detects that and keeps scanning i believe)
So one huge folder for absolutely all samples. and never touch them. then you can create your own collections in the app. But still unstable and undecided on the number of samples.
Welcome to the Waves Forum.
Glad you found something that works for your setup.
That being said, have you tried Contacting Technical Support for help with his matter?
Cosmos isn’t loading any samples for me. Even if i try to drag a short wave recording into the plugin from within my daw or from external folder it just wont show anything.
Hi @5323free,
Welcome to the Waves Forum.
I suggest taking this with our Technical Support team in case you did not solve it already.
Hi,
Errrm, i did click technical team, and that link you sent just takes me straight to the form I filled out to contact you in first place sooo
Hi @5323free,
Yes, you created a case with our support team one of our Tech representatives will reach out soon over the email.
Hey there. Any chance COSMOS already works with MP3? Many moons past since you wrote that it doesn’t work “at the moment”.
Hi @earhears,
Welcome to the Waves Forum.
Currently, COSMOS supports these formats: WAV, AIFF, OGG, and FLAC.
Hmm… yeah, I’m aware of that, thank you very much. You told this very thing 3 years ago. Let me paraphrase – do you, Waves, plan to make Cosmos recognize MP3 files, eventually..?
I thought so… what promised to be a really good tool became unfinished toy. Waste of money.
I don’t know what their plans are, but I can see the formats they support are either linear PCM or “lossless” codecs, as in they may be compressed but no audio information is lost in the process.
The problem with MP3 is that some the audio has been destroyed in the process, making them “lossy” with sub-par quality. It doesn’t mean you can’t music from it, but most people wouldn’t owing to this fact. Those who would seem to be in the minority. The thing is I can see this feature costing developers time and money to implement, but it would seemingly add little or no value to most users. So on one hand I can understand why support for MP3 isn’t available (yet), but that doesn’t mean it will never happen
Cosmos is still a very useful tool, but clearly not for those few who wish to work with MP3 for whatever reason. Here’s hoping they do add support for those who need it sometime soon.
