Hi all,
I wanted to evaluate Ovox. I want to midi out from a voice or from my violin to a software synth. There are a few tutorials on the web, but they all seem to be out dated. Anyways, I tried for days now with several DAWs and could not get the thing to output any midi at all.
My latest tests were in Reaper, which is on the compatibility list of Ovox. No chance.
Is there a bug in the current version?
What I find surprising is that there is a little check box called “Midi” on the header of the plugin and it’s always grayed out an unchecked. Should be there for something, right?
Why should I buy a plugin that does not do what it’s meant to do?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
What DAW are you in?? Because Logic would require you to use it as a Midi-Controlled Effect, Im pretty sure. So if it’s not in the first slot of an instrument channel strip it wont have the midi capacities enabled.
It’s one of the few pioneering yet antiquated feature of Logic that has been around for a couple of decades that Apple still hasn’t gotten around to replacing yet.
As mentioned above, I have tried a few DAWs, the latest being Reaper. Although Reaper is on the Ovox compatibility list and they claim Ovox’ midi out would work with Reaper, in the meantime I have learned that Midi from Plugins is not supported in Reaper at all. However, If I try Ovox standalone or in Cakewalk, Cantabile and others, I get no better results.
Here is an update:
Waves support reproduced my problem with the demo version of Ovox. I was indeed using the demo version, as I stated in my initial post that I was evaluating Ovox.
So Ovox in demo mode does not send out Midi data. The fully licensed version does. No idea if they will fix this or not.
Waves support gave me a full license for a limited trial period so my problem is solved.
It’s also worthwhile checking that the Midi Out option is on in the Synth Options, if you’re not already aware of this.
Hi,
as I mentioned already this is a problem with the demo version and it has been reproduced by Waves support.
Logic requires using it as a MIDI-Controlled Effect in slot one of an instrument channel. It’s an old-school feature that still hasn’t been modernized.
