Missing .dll file in WaveShell 16.7?

I’ve been using Waves IR1 reverb with Finale for years. I know Finale is not officially supported, but with WaveShell version 14 it worked fine; I just added the VST3 directory that the WaveShell .vst3 and .dll files were installed in to Finale’s VST directories and it was able to load the plug-in.

I’ve just moved to a new computer, re-installed the same version of Finale, and installed Waves Central and IR1 on the new system (now WaveShell version 16.7). Finale is no longer able to find the plug-in, and I note that - unlike with version 14 - Waves has now installed only a .vst3 file, not a .dll file, in the VST3 directory. I suspect that the missing .dll file is why Finale can’t locate it.

Does anyone know whether there should be a WaveShell .dll file with version 16.7? If not, is there any way to downgrade back to version 14?

Note, I have contacted technical support about this, but have not yet gotten a clear answer as to whether there should be a .dll file and it’s missing, or whether WaveShell version 16 works differently and there simply is no .dll file…

While I don’t know the actual answer, it might be related to Waves, as with many other developers, discontinuing support of the old VST2 format in favour of VST3. Finale may have an issue with running VST3s or at least, your version might.

I am guessing though, but I do know that there was a transition period for a while where Waves was doing both VST2 and VST3 formats but they ended at V14. There might also be some kind of incompatibility issue with Finale and your OS that may cause this kind of issue too.

Might be worthwhile checking these links out.

It appears the new version works differently and doesn’t include a .dll file. I was able to roll back to v14 and it’s working again.

Ah!! I wonder if their plugins are built a bit differently because of the server technology that they added along the way?!?
