I have another question about the Waves Update Plan (WUP).
I’ve purchased the update plan on October 7, 2024, but because of my personal situation I haven’t been able to use it yet. In the coming weeks I’m planning to upgrade my computer, but that’s taking a bit longer than expected and I hope after that I will still be able to update my Waves plugins to the most recent applicable versions, but if that doesn’t work in time, what happens to the WUP?
Will I still be able to update my current versions, or will the WUP expire?
In that case, is it possible to get an extension?
Thanks in advance,
Hans
Not sure what you mean by not being able to use it yet. As soon as you renew your update plan it’s active for a full year. If you want to make sure you’re using the most current versions of your plugins, log into your account on Waves website and click “get current version”. This will register the most updated licenses to your account.
As Houghton said, hit the website and click on that “Get Current Version” feature before your current WUP is due to expire. It should updated them to V16 and I think that just dropped month or two ago, so you should be nice and up to date for a while.
Thanks for the reply, Houghton.
Thanks for your reply, Simon.
Hey @hanssligter,
As already mentioned here, all your Waves licenses can now be updated to V16.
You may keep your current installation as is and simply activate the new V16 license after of you clicked on the get latest version option from your products page on Waves.com. This can be useful if you’re running multiple Waves product versions or working on a system that requires legacy versions.
If you experience any issues updating your licenses, or if you’d like assistance from one of our representatives to guide you through the process, please don’t hesitate to contact Technical Support

Hi Adi,
Thank you for your response.
So what you’re saying is: I can simply activate the latest versions of the plugins on the products page, securing my WUP (expires on October 7), while leaving my present installations as is for the time being? That would be awesome because it would save me some time.
I’m working with Wave products on two different computers.
A PC that’s going to be upgraded within the next couple of weeks, in order to accommodate Windows 11 and an older MacBook Pro, that’s still running OS Mojave at the moment.
The thing is, I had to wait with the hardware upgrade and OS updates because I have been working outside my country for the last 7 months and have not used my own computers during that period.
Now I’m waiting for the person who’s going to upgrade my PC.
Meanwhile I work mostly on my MacBook. The MacBook needs an OS update, but I the last time I tried doing that (Big Sur is the most recent MacOS it will take), my DAW (Cubase) template project kept crashing at startup. The reason for this may very well have been the fact that I have V9 versions of Waves plugins in that template project and I’ve heard that V9 versions don’t work with OS Big Sur.
Anyway, reason for me to restore a backup of my old MacBook OS (Mojave) because I was in the middle of a production and didn’t have time to solve the problem then.
Now I would prefer to first have my PC upgraded and running, before I’ll try updating the MacBook OS again to Big Sur.
Hopefully the problem I encountered then will be solved by also updating the Waves plugins to a more recent version (I’m aware of the fact that I can’t use Waves V15 and 16 on OS Big Sur), allowing Cubase to start up again.
But as you see I’m more or less running against the clock.
If just activating the latest versions of the plugins on the products page, before the WUP expires, would be good for now and still give me some time to upgrade/update my gear before I really install the latest/latest compatible versions on both of my computers, that would really be awesome!
Would that also mean that I could then still install the latest plugin versions on my PC and legacy versions (latest compatible) on my MacBook?
Hey @hanssligter,
Clicking the get latest version link on your products page will only issue the new V16 License; you will be required to activate the new licenses from Waves Central.
Since the current situation involves changing, upgrading computers, and having sessions running with multiple legacy versions, to avoid any issues or confusion and secure your future updates and sessions, I strongly recommend to Contact Technical Support, who will be able to provide all the information and steps specifically for your setup/s requirements.
They can also remotely connect to your computer and update everything for you if that’s more convenient for you.
