Hi everybody,
I have a question.
I still have quite a lot of Waves version V9, V10 and V11 plugins.
These versions apparently don’t work anymore in MacOS from Catalina on.
That’s the main reason I still haven’t updated my MacBook Pro.
If I purchase the Waves Update Plan does that mean that all the plugins I already own get updated to the latest (V15?) version and I will be able to keep using them after I update my MacBook Pro, or am I missing something?
Maybe I should add some information:
My old MacBook Pro (2014) is still running on OS Mojave. I tried updating it to Big Sur (that’s probably the last compatible MacOS version that would run on it (even if that one is already outdated, I know), but after doing that my Cubase template project (loaded with, amongst others) Waves plugins, would keep crashing at start up.
I didn’t realize quickly that it might likely be caused by some of the older (V9 - V11) Waves plugin version I own. I only found out later that, due to 32bit components, these won’t run in MacOS Catalina and later.
So I’m behind on updating my old MacBook Pro.
I was hoping that at least I would be able to use my present Waves plugins after updating them to V15.
And then I could finally update my OS to the last compatible version and with that update a bunch of other software that I’m behind on.
The way I see it this would give me some extra time (depending on the lifespan of the MacBook of course) of using this setup.
Yes paying for WUP will allow update your plugins to the latest version, V15 presently. The trouble for you, however is V15 most likely wont be able to run on your older system. But…
You don’t have to install the latest version, just the one that will allow the plugins to run on Mojave. You will also need to make sure your DAW is compatible with them too. This should help you to figure that out…

When it come to actually install the plugins via Waves Central you can select which version you install via the View menu, towards the top right in the Install Products tab. Or the Offline Installer if the version you need isn’t available there.
Thank you very much for your reply and helpful information, Simon.
My intention would be to update my system from Mojave to Big Sur asap. I know that Big Sur is already outdated, but at least that OS would enable me to update other software and programs to more recent (in most cases the most recent) versions.
The only thing that’s keeping me from doing this are the older Waves plugins, that I use often in my workflow.
I understand I can check with the chart you provided which Waves version(s) would work on Big Sur (and with my DAW, which is Cubase) and thus decide to which version I should update, using the Waves Central application. Do I understand that correctly?
Hey @hanssligter,
Updating your Waves Update plan will enable you to update your licenses to the latest V15.
You can then choose which versions of the plugins you wish to install from Waves Central.
With your setup running on Big Sur, the latest supported version you can run is V14.
You can Contact our Technical Support team and request their assistance with performing these updates with you online or over email this will ensure everything works as intended.
Hi Adi,
Thank you for your reply and my sincere apologies for my late response to it.
That’s really great to hear. I already purchased the Waves Update Plan.
I’m using the plugins on both a MacBook setup (now still on OS Mojave, but planning on updating asap to Big Sur) and on a PC (Windows 10, updating to W11 before the end of the year).
So by your information I should be able to use V14 on Mac Big Sur. Awesome.
Does that mean I should also use V14 on the PC, or can I have two different versions installed on both platforms?
Like V14 on the Mac and V15 on the PC?
I always use Waves Central to manage the activation, depending on which machine/platform I work.
Hi @hanssligter,
You’re welcome.
Yes, you can use two different installer versions on your computers.
If your PC setup supports V15 you can install V15 on that computer.
Your V15 Licenses are backward compatible with previous Waves installers.
Since the installation and setup process might take some time, feel free to reach our Technical Support Team for quick assistance if required.
Hi Adi,
Fantastic! Thank you very much for your help.
I’m going to install asap and will surely make use of your suggestion to contact support
