Option to skip Waves Central Updates

Can we please chill out with the updates for Waves Central? They are far too frequent, and being hefty several hundred MB installs, it is really inconvenient and slow to sit through them with this regularity. This affects my work.

I mostly use Waves Central to move licences around, usually because I need to take sessions from my studio out on the road to my laptop with very little notice.

I don’t have time to sit through these updates and installation when I’m rushing out of the door. I appreciate that I could load my licences onto a USB key, but with that comes the risk of it being lost or forgotten.

One feature I’d like to see is to allow updates to be skipped / deferred to a later date, so that if you’re in a hurry, which I often am, you can do what you need to do without the inconvenience of updating.

I refuse to spend any more money on Waves products until they fix this nonsense.

It’s difficult to think of any other software where updates are mandatory. Also, software updates carry risk - changing a known working setup is dangerous. I work hard to keep my set up consistent, only updating my DAW, OS etc when absolutely necessary. I deliberately run Pro Tools 2 major versions behind, because my clients need me to be reliable. To have a wildcard like Waves in there makes me uncomfortable; it only takes one software bug on a release and I’ve missed a deadline, which would be very damaging. Come to think of it, why am I even putting up with this risk…!

It’s generally bug fixes and performance improvements. I see that as a good thing.

Hi Simon, I’m not averse to software updates, but if you read my initial post, this is about the ability to skip them temporarily…

I dead actually read it, but as someone with slight dyslexia I have the tendency to miss words or entire lines on occasions.

But I do concede that I think it might be more useful if updates could be suspended. You might, for example, want to install a plugin that is currently not on your system, but don’t want to risk rocking the boat by updating all the other plugins. Especially if you’re in the middle of a project.

I understand the need to update all plugins at once, due to how the Waves shell seems to work. But this topic is about Waves Central.

I agree. There are times when I’m remote with my kit and a 3G/weak-4G signal, and I just need to move a license around. Having to wait for a ~200MB update for the Waves Central app before I can even do that is very disruptive. There’s clearly no particular issue with that functionality - it worked on the same machine previously - so I’d love to be able to defer the download.

Hey Steve. Thanks for this - defer is actually a much better word!
