I once saw a YT video showing how to set Maxxbass and Rbass in terms of the harmonics being generated, or a mathematical approach, as opposed to “use your ears”, which isn’t helpful if you’re not sure what you’re listening for. Does anyone have a link to an article or video with that type of tutorial?
Thanks!
Unfortunately I don’t, but if I were to think about it critically…
The extra harmonics Maxxbass or RBass create are higher harmonics that give the psychoacoustic “illusion” of sounding lower. So considering that they are higher harmonics, in theory, you wouldn’t want them to be louder than that lowest harmonic.
On the most basic principle, the octave above the low fundamental will want to be -3dB softer. If it’s a perfect 5th above, it should be roughly 1.5dB softer than the fundamental. At least, this would be the starting point and you can nudge it from there. In reality MaxxBass/RBass would probably introduce more than one harmonic, especially if there’s some distortion involved, so might want the levels to be a bit less than what I stated above.
You just need a way to compare the difference in them outputs.
