Curves Equator sidechain

Hey guys. Just a quick question about Equator. I’m wanting to sidechain the vocal to duck the clashing frequencies in a heavy guitar part. Do I put equator on the vocal and then use the dropdown box to assign the side to the guitar or vice versa? Doesn’t seem to do what I want it to do when I do this so maybe I’ve got it wrong. Thanks in advance!

You’d put it on the guitar, and set the vocal as the sidechain (assuming you want to duck the guitar - your wording is a bit ambiguous, so I’m assuming you’re doing the sensible one  ).

But even then it’s probably not going to do what you want, and you’ll be better off with an F6 or C6 and some broad ducking. I normally use 3-4 bands to make a bit of space without losing the power completely. You don’t gain much by being more “precise” than that, and you’ll have to cut certain frequencies even more with Equator to get the clarity you want, whereas some broad sweeps with C6 can be gentler.

Thanks so much Steve, I’ll give it a go, I normally duck the volume by 1db where the singing clashes with the guitar, but if thought I’d give this way a go!

Yeah, to add to what Steve was saying sidechaining Equator is more something you would want to do when you have some clashing frequencies muddying things up or everything sounding to harsh together.

But you’d only do that if the problem was intermittent and not happening all the time.
