Is there a tool to clean up old installations and/or places where Waves folders shouldn’t be?
I’m having an issue w/ access errors shutting down my host DAW (Sonar). Feeding the administrative errors into AI has it point towards access errors in WaveShell - and that’s here. I admit some of my plug ins were on the older side, so I updated them all to 17 - and the behavior continues.
Folks on the Sonar site just suggested I stop using Waves plugins, but I like them too much.
I think I’ve got some cleaning up to do to stop the problem. When I ran a the VST scan in Reaper, it indicates that the Waveshells are “non-responsive” and asks me if I want to terminate them. I have left them intact in hopes there’s an OEM solution available.
Any help toward stabilizing things would be really appreciated. I’ve gotten very good at remembering to save the projects before the DAW collapses, but sometimes I miss and it causes my blood pressure to rise. I’d like to make that stop. For health reasons.
“Stop using Waves plugins” is a bit like buying a new car because it got a flat tire!
Often when a DAW reports a plugin or Waveshell as “non-responsive” it’s because there is a dialog that needs some kind of confirmation. But if something goes wrong, that window can appear behind the DAW, and if it does - the DAW thinks it’s not responsive, but it’s actually just waiting on input from the user. So make sure that isn’t the case.
If it’s an ‘actual problem’ then the answer will be in Waves Central. Open that and look for the various options to clean up and correct issues!
There’s also the nuclear option of completely uninstalling, then rebooting. Then manually search for all Waveshells and make sure they are completely removed. Then re-install, and reboot again. That’s your ‘worst case scenario’ but that would surely solve the problem.
Although it’s possible, even then, that you’d need to run one of the cleanup options in Waves Central – so definitely start there.
This issue of “remembering to save the projects before the DAW collapses” is concerning. It’s not normal to have issues like that. It is rare that I have any stability issues and I can’t imagine working in those conditions. What version of Windows? What version of Sonar?
Good luck with it! Waves plugins some of the most stable, efficient, consistent, and bug free plugins on the market which is why I use them as my primary tools. So hopefully you can get this sorted out.
PS. Waves has a good support archive here: Waves Support
One of our Tech Support representatives will soon reach out via email to further assist and ensure that all your Waves installations are in place, with no duplicates or leftovers that might cause issues, as you described in your post.
He will be able to either guide you over the email or a phone call and can even remotely connect to your computer to ensure everything from Waves is installed and loads correctly, if that is convenient for you.
Logic alone periodically does this to me. So the issue isn’t just limited to Waves plugins.
I’ve often found cleaning up Central’s and the DAW’s plugin cache helpful. It tends to eliminate most issues that isn’t a simple incompatible software problem.
If that doesn’t work then there’s also Repair/Reinstall in Central and/or getting in contact with Support.
