Annoying licensing

I just wanted to voice my experience with the licensing of Waves products. Maybe more people will agree and things will change (I know unlikely).

I am just a hobbyist who has many VST’s. I currently use two PC’s and a Surface Pro, depending on how I feel and where I am. I have a very busy life and really don’t need anything getting in the way of the creative moments that pop up. Waves licensing is something that does get in the way - to the point that I very rarely use the products I bought. I am on V13, currently, and barely used them so unlikely to upgrade again. Even when I am on a PC that is activated, I just stopped using Waves products because I knew I would likely continue on a different device.

It’s not hard to understand the no DAW mentality because there can be so many faffing things to do to get set up on PC when creativity strikes. Dealing with licenses is one of those forever-unwanted extra things nobody wants to faff with. I can’t even remember the other brands I stopped using due to licensing faff. There are so many alternatives now, I just move on. There are several big-name VST brands I have no issue with using over different computers.

Everybody has their own set-ups and ways of working, so no doubt it’s no effort for some to carry a USB stick, activate and deactivate etc. For me it has been enough to avoid using such products.

Licensing is such a pain, some more so than others. It’s only there to counteract piracy however. If there was no piracy there would be no reason for convoluted licensing systems. The rest of us get punished because of a small handful or people who couldn’t be trusted. But it’s the same everywhere.

There are an increasing number of road laws because of a select few couldn’t be trusted. Occupational health and safety stands get enforced because of a few idiots had to do the wrong thing. Thee word police are in full force telling us what words we can and cannot say, completely missing the concept of “context” and this is because of the few that misused it.

Unfortunately, this is the world we live in and I’m starting to think software licenses are the least of our concerns when it comes to the over-policing of everything else!! :flushed::confounded:
