It’s essentially what their L1/2/3 does, we just don’t have access to the oversampling parameter.
Given that these were designed quite some time back Waves could be due to do another one with modern features. Such as access to the oversampling, an ISP option and perhaps adding a soft clipping feature added along side the regular hard clipper.
It will be interesting to see what happens next.
