Suggested improvements for MaxxVolume:

  • The leveler should both increase and decrease volume to maintain the target… versus the current behavior, where it only decreases the volume.
  • Currently there is no gain compensation for the leveler, so it makes the signal quieter overall. There should be option to choose either manual or automatic gain compensation on the leveler (without needing to turn on the final High Level Compressor)
  • The auto-gain on the High Level Compressor does not work well; it increases the gain far too much.
  • It should be possible to disable the auto-gain on the High Level Compressor, and just do manual gain compensation.

I pretty much with this agree. Though Waves also needs to preserve the integrity of the classic algorithms so if people open up older projects they’d remain exactly the same.

I think the way around this is to incorporate a Legacy and modern mode, which could function much more effectively in music the way you described. In terms of the Auto Gain issues, it’s possible that the impressive work the put into the Magma Stressbox could come into play here.
