LV1 CLASSIC Feature Requests and Workflow

Hello Waves,

I would like to share some of my initial thoughts and impressions of the LV1 classic / LV1.

  1. RTA overlay option should be available on every eq plug in as default, I also feel there should just be an all in one EMO stock channel strip on every channel in first plug in slot that has everything in one.

  2. Access to HMX and 2k/7k , line level / mic level controls on the channel strips themselves , having to go to the control page in setup is clunky unless i am missing something or another way?

  3. Ability to select different tap point location on channels and buses for direct outs and monitor mixes.

  4. Ability for all buses to be configured as whatever we want, having some what of a fixed bus configuration is less flexible.

  5. Adjustable send levels to matrices and tap point options

  6. Ability to mix channels directly to matrices with adjustable send levels, pre fade option and so on.

  7. Second cue bus for floor monitor cue, ( very nice to be able to have 2 cue mixes 1 that is for IEM only items, and another for floor monitor only) Also being able to select what channels / buses go to those cue mixes as well of course.

  8. more elaborate dedicated talk back mic / shout matrix system for managing multiple talk backs ,

  9. Ability to make custom user patches so you can patch stereo sources however needed, ie : (dante #2 and ionic # 3) to create a stereo channel, further the ability to balance between those two signals on the channel.

  10. console to console sharing —> FOH console sends a stem or group of something to Monitor desk, monitor desk needs to patch this to a channel. Work around right now is to patch it to an analog socket and take it back into a mic pre, not ideal, especially on higher channel count shows.

  11. Crossfade between scenes =) i know this has been requested many times.

  12. Second "channel” tab that can be assigned to second screen

  13. Dedicated FX returns

  14. Global Input A / B select for fast virtual soundcheck switching

I hope this is helpful to the devs and users! I really feel these features i have requested above will make this platform even more powerful!

Thanks!

You make a couple great suggestions but I suggest you take some time to read through the manual as many of the features you are requesting are already possible.

A couple thoughts added below in BOLD.

  1. RTA overlay option should be available on every eq plug in as default, I also feel there should just be an all in one EMO stock channel strip on every channel in first plug in slot that has everything in one. It would be nice to have the option but this would incur a higher load on the server and more latency. F6 vs F6-RTA is a great example.

There has to be a way even consoles like the Behringer Wing have this.

  1. Ability to select different tap point location on channels and buses for direct outs and monitor mixes. You can already do this in the patch window. Clicking on the tap point will cycle through the options.

Yes, but you can only select input right off head amp, post processing which gives all processing, pre fade, and some post/pre pan options, but I don’t think you can select say for example in between the different plug in insert points on a channel or bus. For example say you want to send to someone post eq but pre compressor, that is just one example of what I am requesting here.

  1. Adjustable send levels to matrices and tap point options This is already possible in the channel window on the selected matrix

I could be mistaken but this seems like you can only add 12 channel sources to a matrix? I feel like you should be able to push ALL channels and buses to a matrix from the sends page as needed like Yamaha or Midas. This would open up a lot of flexibility in my opinion. I have to look closer at this , maybe I am mistaken. Either way I feel you should be able to push into matrix from the sends page of the channel and buses just like the other buses.

Ability to make custom user patches so you can patch stereo sources however needed, ie : (dante #2 and ionic # 3) to create a stereo channel, further the ability to balance between those two signals on the channel. You can already patch this way in the patch window. For balance between the two sources, use the trim control on the channel.

Got it ! thanks

console to console sharing —> FOH console sends a stem or group of something to Monitor desk, monitor desk needs to patch this to a channel. Work around right now is to patch it to an analog socket and take it back into a mic pre, not ideal, especially on higher channel count shows. I agree 100%. I believe it’s a limitation of how sharing works. Maybe a good solution would be creating a virtual I/O device where the outputs show ups as inputs which can be patched to by one console and shared to other consoles.

Its a big one gotta give us some sort of work around. At least like 24 virtual outs or tie lines or something

  1. Crossfade between scenes =) i know this has been requested many times. YES! I have been requesting this since v9.

It’s a Big one!

  1. Second "channel” tab that can be assigned to second screen I can see the usefulness of this if you were splitting your work surface between two operators, one on mixer 1 and one on mixer 2 but they would need to channel selection between the two mixer windows.

Yes exactly !

Dedicated FX returns I used to hate the single channel FX bus but since we now have the option of the fader controlling the input rather than the output, I really don’t mind the current implementation.

got it and very interesting so you are in theory sending and returns on the fx channels and assigning them to LR ? but also sending them as needed to monitor mixes ? thanks !

Global Input A / B select for fast virtual soundcheck switching You can already do this with a user defined key.

got it Thanks!

I briefly looked into whether I could make the External Insert “plugin” do this (it consumes a slot, but if the tap matters more then it’ll be worth it), but pretty sure I decided it’d need a physical loopback?

In my cases, I just run entire channel splits (e.g. so my vocalists get a “clean-ish” signal of themselves in monitors and the main LR gets the proper chain - two separate channels patched to the same input).

Yeah, this seems to be true. I ran into the limit one time, and then just reworked what I was trying to do and ended up with a better design anyway (more groups, less direct LR patching). I think the biggest reason I wanted to add more was for the latency compensation to work properly, not necessarily for the extra inputs.

Yes, this would be awesome. I didn’t fiddle with the device-to-device patching page for long, but it felt like “I should be able to do this” and couldn’t sort it out.

I’ve made my groups post-FX, so I send instruments into FX channels and then back into the group along with the instrument.[1] Then monitor mixes (IEMs for me) either take individual channels and the FX, or entire groups (e.g. only the drummer gets individual drums, everyone else hears the drum group complete with verb).

Honestly, it seems like any setup here is going to be complicated and messy  I doubt any random engineer could hop onto my mix and figure out how to balance FX right away,[2] but the only “simple” alternative looks like having to micromanage FX direct to LR/mons, which I also wouldn’t want to do. Compared to when I started learning this side of digital routing 10+ years ago, we’ve got so many options now, and I haven’t really seen people discussing routing patterns that make it effective but understandable. Maybe they’ll develop? I’m sure people have opinions, they just aren’t saying them in places I can hear (and most other engineers I get to work with are still limited to X32-level FX routing).

  1. So that balance within a group is reflected in the FX balance, and the balance between groups includes the FX levels. Makes compressing the group a bit more challenging, but I still prefer it to sending the group post-fader into the FX. ↩︎

  2. I use a mix of pre-fader/post-fader FX (including a post-throw delay fader), as well as sidechained balancing so e.g. vox verb doesn’t exceed the level of the rest of the band. ↩︎
