Anyone using Waves Stream? What’s your experiences?
I’m in the process of testing it with some clients. Mixed results so far.
Pros:
Setup is easy and straight-forward (Logic Pro)
I set up a bus in Logic Pro fed from my monitoring controller, so the client hears always what I hear, even when I switch between references and the mix / master.
Sound seems absolutely usable with the Falcon codec (Optimized setting). Latency is ok. It’s not immediate, but fast enough for most cases. (referring to use with browser)
Sending the link to the client is super easy.
I love the fact that the playhead time is transmitted / visible on the client side.
Cons:
Sound is definitely degraded with the efficient codec.
Strangely on the iPhone browser it seems to perform better than in OS X (tested in Safari, Chrome, Opera, Firefox). For example you can’t change the mode (optimized / efficient) on the OS X browser, but on iPhone it works, at least with WiFi. With Cellular Internet, the option is not showing up. Maybe the mobile site is already a version ahead or is it always using the optimized codec?
Also it absolutely doesn’t like iCloud private relay. It connects, but at least over mobile internet no sound is being streamed.
There are sometimes dropouts and crackling, even with a fast internet landline connection.
When the plugin window is closed (OS X, Logic) it’s sometimes losing the playhead display on the client side and sometimes there are strange stutters and dropouts. (pretty cool sound fx though)
Wishlist: Ducking and / or “mute / dim master” option for the mic-input. Can’t understand why this is not implemented from the start. I know, one can build it with routings in the daw etc, but it would be so much more easy.
Questions: I don’t understand why there is a volume control on the send plugin, which is only affecting the volume within the daw and not what’s being sent. I see that the receiver should set its own volume, but it would be convenient to have the option to attenuate what’s being sent. On the local mix-bus on the other hand I don’t want to have any unwanted volume changes. It should be absolute transparent.
