Sound Grid Studio

Hello waves audio and all soungrid server lovers. I love my soungrid server. I just purchased a new 2023 Mac Pro with the silicon 2 chip and upgraded to Sonoma. My server would not work. every time I launched the sound grid server program It kept scanning for the network, and crashing. I played around with the drivers and file system trying to make it work for about a month. I finally made my way to the Macintosh HD/Library/Extensions and plucked out the soundgrid.kext driver. So far it works perfectly. I just read an article stating that the new operating systems for Mac don’t use the Kext drivers anymore because it is a security issue with the Mac operating system. for all the people that are having sound grid problems try removing the soundgrid.kext. I can’t say it will work for everyone but nothing beats a failure but a try. I really want to hear back from you guys to see if that fixes your problem.

hey @xxxsexman,

Welcome to the Waves Forum.

Glad you managed to get everything to work.

In the future, I suggest Contacting Technical Support and getting their assistance.

You mentioned and I guess you doesn’t use it live, so What’s the advantage of using soundgrid server with newer Macs, is Mac computing power not enough?

Hey @ivan_ef,

Even with a powerful Mac, a SoundGrid Server offers various other benefits rather than just additional DSP processing power:

  1. Offloads Processing – Frees up Mac CPU for other tasks, allowing more plugins without performance drops.
  2. Ultra-Low Latency – Ensures real-time processing with super low latency, crucial for live sound and tracking.
  3. Increased Stability – Prevents CPU overloads and crashes in large sessions.
  4. Networked Audio & Redundancy – Enables multi-computer setups.

How were you able to get rid of the “SoundGrid.kext” driver?

I did contact waves directly and you guys told me on numerous occasions that you couldn’t help me. I even let you guys take control of my computer and you still couldn’t fix the issue.

Macintosh HD/Library/Extensions and plucked out the soundgrid.kext driver.

Hi @xxxsexman,

Thanks for sharing.

Tech support aims to do its best to help any client reporting technical issues, but since you are running on an unsupported OS version, their assistance is limited.

Soundgrid Studio is supported with macOS 11 Big Sur, 12 Monterey, and 13 Ventura .
It is not supported with macOS 14 Sonoma.

That being said I’m very happy to hear you managed to find a solution and get to work on your setup.
