Try this on your mix bus!
- Use StudioRack or StudioVerse Effects with multiband split (2 splits for a total of 3 fx lanes)
- Set the frequency splits to 120hz & 2400hz (adjust to taste)
- Add MV2 to each lane, with Low Level & High Level compression set to 4.5 & -4.5 respectively (adjust to taste)
- Set the StudioVerse/Rack output to -4.5 (or whatever needed so there’s no volume increase when bypassed)
Multiband compression is nothing new – but I had never tried upward compression in multiband before and it’s amazing.
For max usability, set up macro knobs. Link one knob to Low Level Compression in all 3 MV2s… Another knob to High Level Compression in all 3… And then set one more knob to the Output level in all 3.
The magic of the macro knobs is you just use your ears and adjust all 3 plugins at once… You may find you use more compression by ear than you would if you saw how hard you’re pushing it.
PS. A proper multiband MV2 plugin could be awesome, but it’s easy enough to build in StudioVerse/Rack
