Is the RS124 compressor usable as a sidechain compressor in studio one?

Hi, apologies if this is an ignorant question, but I was wondering if the RS124 was supposed to be usable with sidechaining in studio one as the manual seems to discuss features in the stereo version which seem to apply to a sidechain.

The stock compressor (& various other plugins) in studio one have an option to link them to a sidechain, but this does not appear possible with the RS124 as the button does not appear. Obviously if this is because the plugin does not have this functionality then there is no issue, but I wanted to make sure this was/wasn’t the case so I could resolve any problems with my installation etc. in case there was some issue.

I’m essentially a hobbyist when it comes to music production so I apologise if this question is the result of a misunderstanding but any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Waves Forum.

The RS124 does not support an external sidechain. The features mentioned in the manual for the stereo version relate to internal stereo linking and detector behavior, not to sidechain input.

Studio One only shows the sidechain button for plugins that explicitly support external sidechain routing, so what you’re seeing is expected behavior and not an issue.

It’s a bit cumbersome, but one way to work around RS124’s lack of sidechain is to maybe host it inside StudioRack, which does have a sidechain.
