@Pleasureproductions663 , sadly, there’s only one solution: Free up space on your C: drive. The problem is that Waves refuses to obey/allow the customer’s choice of installation path for program files. Even though you may have chosen a specific path for the sample libraries, the software still insists on installing program files to the C: drive and you have no choice in the matter, and if you don’t have enough drive space there, it won’t let you install, and the installer doesn’t clearly tell you what the problem is. You have to be a detective to figure it out. Here’s a screenshot of my situation:
As you can see, it displays the “Sample Libraries” installation path as the folder I chose on my E: drive, which has 63.8 GB of free space. (Left window) Down at the bottom near the install button, you’ll see that Waves reports that there’s not enough space, and that there’s only 2.97GB available. This is referring to my C: drive, which after hours of troubleshooting, I realized it was still forcing installation of software to my C: drive and there is no way in the program to change that.
I have contacted Waves about this and they have been unable to respond properly. I received a response, but it took more than a week, and then the response was not even about the issue I wrote in about. At this point, I really regret spending money on Waves Ultimate. I expected more from such a widely used software company.
@Adi.Waves, there are no external hard drives on my computer. They are all “built in”. It is lazy and/or bad design to not allow computer owners to decide where programs are installed. This issue causes me (and many others online, apparently) to never buy anything from Waves ever again. Worse, responses from support have been more than a week between, and have yet to actually respond appropriately. (The responses have nothing to do with the problem)
This is a very old problem (since at least 2017), widespread and Waves is already well aware of, but refuse to change it. It is a result of Waves refusing to allow computer owners to choose where on their own computer, software is installed.
I appreciate the feedback and will make sure it reaches the correct personal.
Do note that Waves Central installs only to the default local HD of the computer is not a problem but by design, and currently the software installation will only be available as mentioned previously, on the local HD pf the computer.
This is also clearly stated in my posts on this thread so no real need to be detective.
" Waves Central will only install to local HD of the computer, this cannot be changed currently."
Yes, you can choose to install the samples libraries on an external HD but not the plugins themselves currently.
Waves Central also indicates and mentioned there is no space and how much space is needed in order to continue the installation.(as shown in your image)
As per Tech Support response, your email was only sent on Thursday 12/11 just before the weekend, you were responded on monday the 16/11 first thing as soon as the Tech Support rep was available.
The rep’s suggestion to first try and install only the software without the sample libraries was actually correct and related to your reported issue since the Samples Library size a pretty large.
In the future I strongly suggest to take this over the phone with support they will be able to even remote to your computer for a quick solution without the need to wait for an email.
I also had the same exact issue (I already solved it thanks to the other members and not because of waves or their staff).I understand that this topic has been “solved” but I think it should be said that it should be put on the download page for waves central to clearly state that it may only be installed on the default local HD. 9/10 times people only just find this out AFTER buying a plugin that they can’t even use. I also went through to look to see in the “system requirements” page to see if it says that plugins can only be installed on the default local HD and would you believe it? There isn’t a single thing stating that. All it has for memory is this:
Memory
Minimum: 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended)
16 GB free disk space on the system drive
Let me also be clear in saying that “the system drive” still does not clearly specify that it needs to be the DEFAULT local HD (in most cases the C:/ drive). This is also the only thing it says under all the plugin tech specs as well. I understand that there must be a reason for not allowing installations elsewhere (even though every other company allows it.) but there should at least be very clear wording about the installation requirements because this was super frustating and I had to spend a lot of time researching the problem and eventually clearing space on my C drive which was inconvenient. After this month is up I don’t think I will be returning to waves especially seeing how they dealt with this and how subpar their customer service can be.
Appreciate the feedback, you can find the mentioned statement which I pasted below in our System requirements page, under Exceptions and Notes.
Waves Plugins and applications are supported and tested on operating systems installed on the built-in system hard drive. Operating systems installed on external hard drives are not tested and may not be fully functional with our software.
Hi @Adi.Waves As per my last message A “Built-in system hard drive” does not specify that it needs to be the DEFAULT LOCAL HD. IT should also be stated that for normal PC users that this will refer to the C:/ drive. Many PCs come with more than ONE storage device and the wording does not make it easy to discern what its referring to especially since this isn’t a problem with most other companies. I can see that I am not the only one that has had this problem and it can be very frustrating especially when you just repeat the same bad wording.
All I’m saying is that the waves web team should at least clearly disclose where waves central needs to be installed. It’s silly that you guys just can’t put that directly on the download page or at least a bit more clear and easy to find on the system requirements page.
