There are 13 pages of macros, which gives 104 mapped macros, but it turns out that if you put, for example, 7 plugins inside a parallel, there’s a chance you won’t be able to map all 7 plugins, apparently due to some limitation.

You’re right, I think the Macro system can do with a bit of a review.
I personally wouldn’t mind Buttons as an option, so you can link them to the Bypass of certain plugins in your configuration.
Being able to customise the number of controls shown and even add your own custom skins to give your chains a personalised touch would also be a great option. At least, in my opinion.
