I’m a big fan of Waves IR-1 ever since a YouTube interview with Andrew Scheps interview turned me onto it. However, the UI is more functional than fun, and it’s definitely one of Waves’s older UIs.

What I never noticed, though, was Waves IR LIVE. I assumed that was just a CPU/latency reduced version of IR-1 or IR-L but no! It’s a specific plugin intended for live use — with its own unique UI. Check it out if you’ve never seen it:

It’s a simplified version for sure, and it doesn’t have the “decorrelation” setting which Andrew Scheps was specifically a fan of — but it’s easier on the eyes and reduces the controls down to the basics. I love it, and it’s a goto reverb for me.

It also shows zero latency in my performance meter, so that’s a big plus for people who are sensitive to PDC latency and want to use the reverb during composition.

Anyhow, if you’re a Mercury owner it’s possible you have this installed and never tried it. Give it a spin and see if you like it.

PS. I may be pointing out the obvious, but Waves has a 4.5 gig impulse response library for IR-1, IR-L, and IR-Live and it has a ton of outstanding reverb convolutions. Definitely download & install it if you haven’t yet:
