Now that LV1 V17 gives you three banks and 8 presets to build around:

Have you found your golden layout yet? How did you design your presets?

Once you find a layout you really like, do you keep it across all your sessions? start fresh every time? Different preset files for different gig types?

And is anybody still using Big Faders these days?

I have settled on Rack on top, Input in the middle, and Small faders on the bottom. Small faders only for the metering as I’m still using a FIT Controller. I honestly don’t find a lot of the views useful. A good bit of the plugins I use don’t map to the channel view. I would love to have more options such as maybe a combo mute group/scene control module. Those are the items I really need quick access to while mixing and I’ve had to resort to using a stream deck to do it. It would also me nice to have a hot plugin panel that I can pin plugins to for quick access. Just some of my thoughts but I do like the direction LV1 is headed.

I like the Route view to quickly add channels to groups and links. But once set, rarely go back there. My home view is typically rack and big faders since I’ve gotten used to that on v16 (old dog).

Yeah, I’m the same. Some of the views are convenient for setting up the session, but once it’s good I really don’t need the additional distraction. I don’t really need the big faders either, but after getting used to v16 they feel comfortable.

I _might_ like a big rack view, either with 1-2 key parameters shown or just the image. Having the plugins float without changing view would be nice here, but not a huge deal.

Maybe what I’d actually like is more of a history view instead of the big fader? A scrolling spectrogram (frequency from left-to-right across the narrow channel; level shown as a heatmap scrolling up) with comp/gate/clip marked as colours would actually be awesome. Imagine searching for the channel that’s got feedback and you can just see the last 5 seconds of audio on each channel. Or there’s random noise bursts that show up on a scrolling view at a glance, rather than switching between channels and waiting for it to happen again.

Maybe everyone else is running an external display with this kind of thing on it? But I’m not. I think I’d absolutely replace the big faders with more meters if that were an option.

Because I already had a well-functioning and properly routed show file, I didn’t really use any other presets besides Edit and Home. When I’m mixing a show, I prefer not to be distracted by too many parameters on screen.

Most of the time I listen and mix with the faders in the Mixer window, and when I need to make more detailed adjustments to EQ, compression, etc., I switch to the Channel window. Since you can also control Scheps Omni Channel directly from the Edit view, that already covers most of what I need during a show.

One thing I would really like to see is the FX inserts being available in a Mixer-style window that takes up two of the three vertical slots. I think that could make the workflow even faster and cleaner.

As for layouts, I don’t really save, export, or import custom presets. Sometimes I switch between the small and big fader views depending on the situation, but I don’t feel the need to save those as separate layouts.

And yes, I definitely still use Big Faders. During soundcheck, or when the mix position isn’t ideal, I usually walk around the venue with an iPad running [MixTwin](https://www.waves.com/mixers-racks/mixtwin?utm_source=forum). When doing that, I switch to the Big Faders view because it’s much easier to work with on a touchscreen. Once soundcheck is done, I normally switch back to the smaller faders.

I also really like having large VU meters, so sometimes I simply use the Home window with Big Faders. It gives me a very calm, uncluttered view with fewer distractions, which I really like when I just want to focus on the mix.

In the previous version, I often found myself switching between the Aux 1–8 view, the Aux 9–16 view, and the FX view.

Now I can fit all three on a single screen in front of me, which is great. However, I do miss having signal metering visible on the screen. The small LCD displays above the faders weren’t enough for me.

So at the moment, I’m using the Small Faders view for FX and Aux 1–8. However, I could imagine having the ability to configure each row independently. For example, I could have Aux 1–12 (monitors + IEMs) on the main fader rows, along with the 4 FX returns I actually use, while keeping the Small Faders available as well.

That would give me a much better overview and make the workflow even more flexible.
